Make Your College List with College Greenlight

Now that you understand college options, it's time to start creating the list of schools you may apply during your senior year in high school. We suggest you to have a list of ten schools; make sure to include dream schools, match schools, and safety schools. We understand that with so many resources out there that offer a lot of information on colleges and universities, it can be difficult to find schools that are a good match for you to put on your college list. That’s where the College Search tool from College Greenlight comes in.

You'll need to open an account and create a profile to use this tool, but it's free and pretty simple to set up: you just have to enter information like what you plan on studying in college, your current GPAcollege entrance exam scores, information on extracurricular activities, and leadership roles. They also ask for some more personal information like your parents’ income and education level. Most of the information that they ask for is not required to have a profile on the site, but remember that the more complete your profile is, the easier it will be to find schools that are a good match for you.

Researching colleges on CollegeGreenlight.com is simple: over 5,000 colleges profiles can be found.

Once you fill out your profile information, you should check out the College Search tool on the right sidebar of your page. Here is where you can get really specific with what you want out of the college you end up attending. You can select your preliminary college preferences - including location, campus size, and majors offered - and rate the importance of each factor. Afterwards, College Greenlight will quickly pull together a list of schools that have exactly what you're looking for.

After that, you’ll start receiving messages from colleges and universities that College Greenlight has matched you with based on this information. You’ll have access to a ton of information on these colleges, as well as a percentage indicating how good of a match they are for you based on your preferences. You can choose whether you are interested in a school or not by clicking a button next to the colleges in your college messages. If you are interested in a college click “Yes” and that school will be saved to your College List at the bottom of the page. Schools that you say you are interested in will also periodically send you emails with information about the school.

You’ll have access to a ton of information on these colleges, as well as a percentage indicating how good of a match they are for you based on your preferences.

You can always add colleges manually to the list if there is a school you’re interested in that hasn’t sent you a message. You can also add or delete colleges from this list at any time. Spend some time playing with this tool; it’s a great tool to help you make your college list and get those top ten schools you want to apply to.
